What is GPA & How is it Calculated?
GPA stands for Grade Point Average. In SSC, HSC, and equivalent examinations administered by Bangladesh Education Boards, each subject is evaluated on a 0.00 to 5.00 scale based on marks. The final GPA is determined by averaging the total mandatory grade points together with any bonus points from the optional 4th subject.

4th Subject Bonus Rule & Mathematical Worked Example
Under the Bangladesh Education Board system, the optional 4th subject provides a scoring advantage. Grade Points up to 2.00 represent the passing threshold and yield no bonus. However, all points scored ABOVE 2.00 are added directly to the mandatory total grade points.
4th Subject Bonus Formula:
Bonus Points = (4th Subject GP − 2.00) [if GP > 2.00, otherwise 0.00]
Final GPA Formula:
Final GPA = (Total Mandatory Grade Points + 4th Subject Bonus Points) ÷ Total Mandatory Subjects
Worked Calculation Example:
Suppose a science student takes 7 mandatory subjects plus 1 optional 4th subject (Higher Math):
Total effective points = 32.50 + 3.00 = 35.50 points.
Final GPA = 35.50 ÷ 7 = 5.07. Since the maximum GPA is capped at 5.00, the final result is GPA 5.00 (A+)!
What happens if a student fails (F) in the 4th subject?Failing the optional 4th subject will NOT cause overall failure; it simply contributes 0 bonus points. However, failing any mandatory subject will result in an overall FAIL (GPA 0.00) regardless of 4th subject marks.
Golden A+ Rules & Requirements
Golden A+ is an elite distinction achieved when a candidate scores 80+ marks (Letter Grade A+, GP 5.00) in EVERY mandatory subject without needing 4th subject bonus points to achieve 5.00.
If a student scores below 80 in any mandatory subject but reaches GPA 5.00 via 4th subject bonus, they earn regular GPA 5.00, not Golden A+.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can the final GPA exceed 5.00?
A: No. Even if bonus points mathematically push the average above 5.00, it is officially capped at 5.00 (A+).
Q: Can subject or course names be written in both English and Bangla?
A: Yes, absolutely! You can write subject and course names in Bengali, English, or bilingual mixed text (e.g., "Physics / পদার্থবিজ্ঞান"). Both fonts render with complete typographic accuracy in print preview and official server PDF downloads.
Q: Is my marks data secure and private?
A: 100% private. All marks and student data are processed purely in your browser without saving to any server.
